Frequently Asked Questions

If we are already struggling with paying our bills, how do you expect us to be able to afford financial coaching?

That's an important question! The answer is really about the value provided by my services. Value evaluation is a component of my financial fitness program. You have to look at where you were last month, where you are today and where you think you will be next month. Is your situation staying the same, getting better or getting worse with what you are doing today? When do you see it getting better and how will you accomplish that? I will look at your situation and provide immediate action steps for you to take so that you can realize actual improvement in your financial health next month and the month after that and for the rest of your life. You might try to figure it out on your own, but how much time and money will you waste doing so? The value I provide is not only the opportunity for immediate improvement in your financial health but an improvement in your relationships with your spouse, family and friends. The steady reduction of financial stress will improve your attitude and even your physical and mental health. As you progress through the program you will see the light at the end of the tunnel getting brighter and brighter!

How can I be sure if I need financial coaching?

I provide a free 15 minute information call so we can get acquainted with each other and to discuss your situation. Together we make a determination if I can provide solutions to improve your financial health. Not everyone needs financial coaching and I don't want to bring on clients if I can't help them. I will listen to your challenges and ask questions to determine if you are ready to take the actions needed. In the event you would be better served by a different professional, I may be able to provide a referral.

If I decide to enter your program, what will I have to do?

Great question! You must have the desire and willingness to become financially fit. This will require changing the way you view money and modifying some of your spending decisions. You will have to learn and implement the behaviors that will put you in control of your money instead of it controlling you. The things you have to do will not be difficult to understand but they may challenge your current financial mindset. You may find that you need to "hold your nose and eat the spinach." But once you start seeing results, you will be happy you did!

It sounds a little like a diet.

Okay, I can see that. Some diets provide a structured plan that tells you what and how much you should eat to improve your physical health. To achieve financial fitness, you may have to go on a financial diet. By setting priorities and goals, you and I will come up with a personalized "money diet" that you can live with and that will help you achieve your financial goals.

What is the difference between a financial coach and a financial advisor?

A financial coach looks at your situation today and provides specific solutions to help you improve your financial health. A coach will focus on improving spending behaviors, will help you establish and maintain a spending plan and will provide accountability during the coaching program. You may meet with a coach once or on an ongoing basis to try to instill positive change and eliminate negative habits - similar to the approach of a personal trainer.  Many financial advisors focus on your longer term investment and savings goals and provide investment advice and asset management services.  In many cases, financial advisory firms require a minimum asset level to provide client services.  Coaching clients who have successfully transformed their financial situations and have improved their ability to save money may find a need to transition to financial advisory services.

What if the program doesn't work for me?

There are no guarantees. Like a personal trainer, I can teach you and encourage you to make proper decisions to become financially fit, but only you can guarantee that you will follow through. Rest assured that I am on your team and I want you to succeed as much as you. If we find that your challenges need to be addressed by a different professional I can provide referrals to make sure you get the kind of help you need.

How do I get started?

First, we need to have a conversation. I need to get to know you and your situation and you need to get to know me and feel confident I can help. I offer a free phone consultation for that purpose. During that call, we will decide together if you should move forward and then schedule your Foundation Session.
